We kicked off our first meeting of the 2021-22 school year virtually. It was wonderful to have some new members join the meeting as well as returning members.
At the start of the meeting, we adopted our PTA’s mission and goals for the year and our standing rules. We also reviewed the monthly financial reports and approved the 2021-22 budget.
Membership reported they are on their way to reaching their goal of 300 members for the year. As an incentive to join PTA, the membership committee is having a drawing! Everyone who becomes a member by October 31st will be entered into a drawing to win a Pizza and Treats Family Fun Gift Basket! (learn more)
Each of our program chairs shared brief updates on what is happening with their programs, and we are excited that Art Docents and Library Volunteers can volunteer in person starting this month. There are still a few open volunteer spots for anyone interested in bringing art to their student’s classroom or helping on their student’s library day.
Jenn Snyder shared the WSPTA Legislative Assembly is happening virtually on October 23rd and 24th and Canyon Creek PTA will be sending 3 delegates to vote on WSPTA Legislative Platform.
Our Canyon Creek Principal, Mr. Denton was our special guest. He answered pre-submitted questions and took some questions from the attendees. Mr. Denton reported the Apex Fun Run was very successful. The school leadership team along with PTA representatives will be meeting to discuss how the funds raised will be used in the budget. He also reported at this time there is a substitute shortage. This is not unique to our school district as other area school districts are experiencing the same.
Our President, Karen Smith, also asked for volunteers for the Nominating Committee. If you would like to help in selecting our 2022-23 nominees for the executive board, please contact Karen at president@canyoncreekpta.org.
