About the Program:

Canyon Creek's Art Docent Program is growing strong! The program began in the Northshore School District in 1969. With support from parent volunteers, the PTA, and Northshore School District, our school has developed a very robust program with a high standard of art lessons. Guided by the EALRS (Essential Academic Learning Requirements) the program reaches students from kindergarten to fifth grade.

The program includes a variety of different artists from different cultures and time periods. This helps to expand the students' awareness of art appreciation, and a variety of artistic mediums.

Mediums include: pencil, charcoal, watercolor, clay, tempera paint, oil, pastels, chalk and a variety of paper types.

The program is conducted with a series of questions and discussions related directly to the piece of art brought into the classroom. There is never a right or wrong answer, only contributions to the conversation.
