Background

This material was presented to the NEMCo (Northshore Emergency Management Coalition – Kenmore & Lake Forest Park) on 3/21/18. It was attended by Robin McKenzie PTSA, Bill Brookes (NSD Security) and a conference room of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) folks. Post presentation Bill and Robin spoke about the PTA engaging parents as this is the very same approach that NSD is taking with teachers and staff. This presentation provides all adults (not intended for children less than 16 years old) with knowledge that will empower and instill confidence to survive an active shooter attack whether at work, church, the movie theater or anywhere else they may be. It is not intended to frighten, but to empower and strengthen the ability to survive. Avoid Deny Defend™ is designed as an awareness tool that will empower and instill confidence to civilians of all ages and abilities, helping them understand that “What You Do Matters™” in an active shooter event. We have already spoken with Captain Armbrust, LFPD, and he is very excited about the opportunity and more than happy to engage individual PTA’s after the initial presentation.
